The third IEEE International Conference on Semantic Computing (ICSC2009) continues to foster the growth of a new research community. The conference builds on the success of ICSC2007 and ICSC2008 as an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present research that advances the state of the art and practice of Semantic Computing, as well as identifying the emerging research topics and defining the future of the field.

The inaugural International Conference on Advances in Semantic Processing, SEMAPRO 2007, was initiated considering the complexity of understanding and processing information. Semantic processing considers contextual dependencies and adds to the individually acquired knowledge emergent properties and understanding. Hardware and software support and platforms were developed for semantically enhanced information retrieval and interpretation. Searching for video, voice and speech [VVS] raises additional problems to specialized engines with respect to text search.
